Hair Care Routine
Healthy hair doesn’t happen by accident—it’s the result of regular care and attention. Just like your skin, your hair needs to be cleansed, nourished, and protected to look its best. A well-rounded hair care routine is crucial for maintaining the strength, shine, and manageability of your hair, regardless of its type or texture.
As someone who struggled with hair thinning, I’m going to go over the hair care routine that helped my hair grow back fuller and healthier than ever!
Let’s start by talking about hair wash days. Personally, my hair gets greasy easily. After 1-2 days it starts to look pretty oily. I’ve tried to “train” my hair by not washing it so often and it never worked. Recently dermatologists have debunked the idea that washing your hair every other day is bad. In fact, if you struggle with thinning and greasy hair it may be best for your hair type to wash every other day. This helps to keep your hair moisturized and to get rid of any build up that may be blocking new hair growth. This method may not work for everyone, but I can say it has helped me.
A game changer in my hair care routine was investing in a shower water filter. Water filters are good for removing excess chlorine typically found in water from big cities. They also filter hard water and heavy metals that may be getting in the water from old rusty pipes. My favorite water filter is from Aquabliss. It is affordable yet effective. As soon as I invested in a filter, I noticed my scalp became less itchy, irritated, and greasy. I also started to notice my skin and hair softer and healthier.
Next let’s talk about what to use to cleanse your hair. My current go to shampoo is actually a bar shampoo from kit-sch. Bar shampoos and conditioners are actually one of the best ways to clean your hair. Most bottled shampoos claim to be free of sulfates and parabens, yet still contain many other harsh ingredients that do more harm than good in the long run (of course they don’t tell you that). If you are scared to try an organic shampoo bar and conditioner, one of the few bottled shampoos I can recommend is from Shea Moisture. As someone with straight hair my favorite is the Daily Hydration, but this brand is known to have many good products for all hair types that are actually safe to use.
Now, let’s go back a few steps to your hair wash. My favorite thing to do before washing my hair is apply an organic hair oil. A good hair oil contains rosemary oil to help with hair growth and promote a healthy scalp. This can be combined with any other hair oil that is good for your hair type. My favorite hair oil is from Lia Organics. This hair oil is sourced from the best organic ingredients. The reviews speaks for itself and can be used on all hair types. So many people have seen an improvement in hair volume after using this oil. It is best to apply 1-4 hours before washing your hair and massaging it in with a scalp massager for at least 5 minutes. You can also use a bamboo brush to massage, detangle, and spread out the oil before hopping in the shower. Another great oil used for hair growth is batana oil. This organic oil from Honduras can help strengthen hair, repair hair, and encourage new hair growth. This oil can be alternated between the rosemary oil on your hair wash day or you can stick to one. It also smells so good and sweet.
That concludes my current favorite hair routine. I included affiliate links throughout the blog to my favorite products, most of which can be bought on Amazon. Feel free to comment, share, or ask me any questions you may have!
