Healthy Habits

Having healthy habits can improve the quality of your life. What does that mean? Well, it can uplift you mentally, physically, and emotionally. It can cause you to feel the happiest you’ve ever been and even the strongest. It can also help you face adversity when the time comes. If you are new to wanting to create healthy habits, it’s not something that is typically achieved overnight, but when you stick with it the results are promising. Deciding to live a healthy lifestyle can change your life for the better in so many ways and even open your mind to new horizons.

Here are some healthy habits to start your journey for a healthier lifestyle and better living.

  • Get enough sleep - If you’re already struggling with sleep, don’t worry, making additional changes that I will discuss below can help improve better quality sleep. However, if you are someone who deliberately stays up binge watching you favorite Netflix show or scrolling on TikTok (guilty), you can start by ensuring you get enough sleep so your body is fully rested and recovered for the next day.

  • Eat 3 meals - Eating 3 meals a day can help you stay energized and keep your body with all the necessary nutrients it needs to stay healthy.

  • Eat less processed foods and more whole foods - To ensure your body is receiving the proper nutrients from 3 meals a day you should minimize processed foods and consume more whole foods. Whole foods include fruits and veggies, lean meats, whole grains, and healthy fats. Almost every health problem can be prevented and sometimes even reversed just by supplying your body with good whole foods.

  • Get some exercise - We all know exercise is important. Everyone talks about going to the gym but if you’ve tried and can’t seem to stay committed, don’t worry, there are so many other fun options and you should find what works for you. For example, you can hike, swim, run, join a boxing class, spin cycle class, yoga, gymnastics, dance, soccer or softball… the list goes on. There are so many routes you can take to actually enjoy fitness, don’t feel confined to just one.

  • Drink plenty of water - We hear this one all the time, yet so many people don’t drink nearly enough water as they should. Ditch one of your coffee cups, sports drink, and/or soda and make sure you are getting enough water.

  • Limit screen time - Utilizing your phone doesn’t have to be a bad thing. You can learn so many useful things online nowadays. It may even be how you are reading this post. However, we may be overstimulated. You can use some of that time to go outside for a nice walk or spend time in nature and calm your mind.

  • Keep your space clean - Keeping your space clean can help you feel relaxed after a busy day. Keeping things organized and putting it away immediately after you use it can help minimize the amount of cleaning you’d have to do.

  • Quit smoking/drinking - We all know how bad smoking can be for you. Excessive drinking can be just as bad. Even if you don’t consider yourself a heavy drinker, it’s nice to quit every once and while. You’ll notice how much more clearly things are and don’t wake up feeling groggy. This applies even if you are not a binge drinker. You can still have so much fun at social events without drinking.

Creating new healthy habits can be challenging, especially if you are starting over for the first time in a long time. However, nothing beats having a healthy mind and body. Being able to move and use your body is a blessing. You can spend more time with friends and family and do fun everyday activities. If you give yourself enough time these habits won’t feel like a chore. You’ll grow to enjoy doing them and it’ll be like breathing. You won’t even think of it you’ll just do it.
